Vehicle Description

ALVIS TB 14 1950. Chassis No: 023579 Body: 1088 Engine No: 23579. Four cylinder OVH Engine 1892cc. 74 x 110mm.

As with all the 100 TB14s made HYS 615 was built in 1950 and delivered via the Scottish agents James Galt to Joyce Reid in Glasgow in December that year. Since then, this car has only had 6 owners, the current lady owner bringing the car back from the Netherlands in 2015. This is a rare car being one of only 38 left.

The TB 14 was born from a Belgian design concept by Bidee in 1948. Following the war years Alvis needed to maintain production and buy steel from the then nationalised, British Steel. So, to build cars in the U.K. they also had to design, build, and offer a car for the export and particularly the booming American market. The bodies, in steel, where created by A.P. Metalcraft of Coventry. It’s glamorous sweeping and sleek profile was in keeping with the new look of the post war 50's. The engine was upgraded with twin SU’s and a 4.3:1 back axle enabling this model to achieve 80mph.

Fitted with Michelin X tyres this car drives beautifully and is a real head turner with its smooth body lines, concealed hood, large sweeping boot, and fold flat front screen. The original period push button radio is retained but upgraded with modern electronics for everyday practicality.
In 2015 the car was stripped and mechanically restored including, brakes, axles, steering, engine reconditioned and rewired.

The body underwent a bare metal respray back to its original gleaming black, and the interior was reupholstered by Piper Trimmers of Sparkford in red leather and carpeted in black with a new deep red hood, black side screens, black tonneau, and kidney warmers. A drinks cabinet was also recreated in the passenger door as per the 1948 show car.

This is a functional and stylish car, used regularly for tours, shopping and day to day life, and the large boot easily copes with ample luggage for two. Although used regularly by the current owner the odometer shows only 46000 miles which are believed to be genuine.
HYS 615 drives like a dream and turns heads wherever it goes.
